The Biopsych approach is a model of health that is focused in the connection that exists between the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. It establishes that true wellthiness (wellness and health) must be focused on balanced life styles that nourish the body, mind, and soul. This is for a disease prevention, as well as, for a disease reduction.

This approach recognizes that behaviors or physical symptoms are the tip of the iceberg of what happens underneath in the physical, mind, emotional, and spiritual life. Thus, in this approach, in contrast with the conventional medicine approach that sees individual areas, physical health must be treated along with the mind and emotions parting from the existence of our spiritual beings. 

Each part of the biopsych approach is deeply rooted in my own life experiences. Ten year ago, my body was a hormonal mess, my mind and emotional reactions were fear and stress based, and only my God and faith, relationships, and Grit kept me going. Parallel to my own issues, my family was also experiencing chronic illnesses and mental health issues that were almost irreversible (at least, I thought so at the time). The mess and frustration of dealing with doctors and test results that indicated that, “Nothing was wrong and that everything was Normal”, just created this deep sense dissatisfaction that moved me to look for, “The Cure”. Inside of me I had a disbelief in the mental health professionals and their pills to cure deep life wounds and years of poor choices. Finally, one day things turned around and I began to see how true Wellthiness comes from the interconnection of our bodies, emotions, minds, and spirit. I’m thankful that I found other doctors and professionals who have similar beliefs and approaches and that inspired my walk. 

Needless to say, adulting has been tough, but this ten year journey of finding, “The Cure”, is worth sharing. And I’m not saying that the Byopsych approach will be the ultimate cure (although it may be), but I am saying that in it  there is wisdom from heaven and transformative powers that can make our lives worth living.  

Following the Biopsych approach is simple and structured. Each area is well defined and has achievable steps that will improve your wellthiness. As a way of how to implement it, there is a best practice model that I will introduce under each of the steps. However, since we all come with different backgrounds, experiences, and personalities there is room for each of you to take a different route to the same wellthiness goal.
